W Polsce istnieje prawie 2,5 miliona blogów, z czego ponad połowa znajduje się na serwerach powiązanych z Onetem - blog.onet.pl, blog.tenbit.pl i blog.pl.

Blogi zazwyczaj posiadają system archiwizacji wpisów, możliwość komentowania wpisów przez czytelników, a także zestaw linków (tradycyjnie umieszczany w bocznej kolumnie): do blogów polecanych przez autora (tzw. blogroll) i innego rodzaju stron WWW. Ogół blogów, traktowany jako medium komunikacyjne, określa się czasem mianem "blogosfery".
